Can I ask your good selves to take a little action? Nothing too painful.

I’ve worked with the people at MailChimp to set up a mailing list system. I’ve tested it from the quiet grasslands of my home and it all appears to work, but I want to test more rigorously.

Try the following steps to see what happens.

  1. Navigate to the home page of my blog, now called ‘The Journey Begins’. You can also get there by clicking on my home page, at https://kevinelliott.space

2) You’ll see a link below the second paragraph there, called ‘Sign up for Kevin’s newsletter. Alternatively you can click on the image on the left (the young girl staring at the light).

3) A form will appear asking for your email address and (optionally) your first name. Fill these in and click the ‘Get my free story’ button. In a heartbeat you should receive an email saying you’ve subscribed to my mailing list: the email should say ‘Journey into Light: Subscription Confirmed.’ In another few moments another email should appear in your inbox titled ‘Welcome to the world of ‘Lightmaker’.

4) This second email should contain a link for a free short story written by myself: a gift to you for signing up. Click on this link (the word ‘here’) and you’ll be taken to a ‘Book Funnel’ page where you’ll see a red button on a black bacground saying ‘Get My Book. Clicking there should let you choose an option for downloading your copy: it should work for e-readers and tablets and both Apple and Android mobile phones.

5) Phew! Have a cup of tea.

6) Your email is now safely stowed on a secure server through MailChimp. I’ll never sell or hand over your data to any third party and you can unsubscribe at any time by clicking on the link at the bottom of the emails you’ve received.

7) I’d love to know how you found the sign-up process. Let me know if you saw any error messages or if you found the system clunky or didn’t receive the emails or had a problem accessing the story. You’re also welcome to write if you just want to chat: I’m very friendly.

8) If you don’t unsubscribe I hope to send out one or two emails every month to let people know my thoughts on writing, on science and its impact on society. I aim to self-publish ‘Lightmaker’ on Amazon later this year and would love you to share my journey.
